IPSWICH – It’s back to the future for Merfish United as it has announced it will change its name to United Pipe & Steel Corp.

That was a name previously held by the company before Merfish of Houston and United Pipe & Steel of Ipswich merged in February 2019.

United Pipe & Steel is located beside the Majestic Dragon on Route 1. The name change became effective on February 20, 2023.

“This move resonates with the diverse customer segments we serve, the broad array of pipe products we offer, and who we are as a company, with a strong brand recognition built over more than 40 years,” said CEO Greg Leidner.

After the merger four years ago, the headquarters and executive leadership remained in Ipswich but the new Merfish was owned by One Equity Partners (OEP).

Playing off the new/old company name, Leidner said, “We are united with our customers, our supplier partners, and of course our employees.”

In the coming weeks, the new United Pipe & Steel Corp. logo will appear on the company’s fleet of more than 60 trucks, its facilities, website, documentation, and communications.

United Pipe & Steel is now part of the Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co. family of Companies. It completed the acquisition of Merfish in October 2021.

Based in Los Angeles, the Reliance website lists 54 companies as part of its group. It is publicly traded and had revenues of $17.03 billion in 2022, which was up 20.8% on the previous year.
