A two-storey fast food restaurant has officially opened its doors, creating around 100 new jobs.

McDonald’s in Martlesham Heath near Ipswich welcomed its first customers from 11am on Wednesday, with people able to go for dine-in, takeaway and click and serve.

The restaurant, which is open 24 hours, is situated in the former Evans Cycles building near Tesco, Wickes and Topps Tiles.

The new 120 seater restaurant, which spreads across two floors and features a lift, includes roof mounted solar panels, a front counter redesign, a dedicated courier waiting area and entrance and a new kitchen design.

Carol Rogerson, a McDonald’s franchisee who now owns and operates 20 McDonald’s in Norfolk and Suffolk, said: “We are delighted to be opening another brand-new McDonald’s restaurant in Ipswich, especially as McDonald’s celebrates it 50th year in the UK.

“We can’t wait to see local customers enjoying the services we offer.

“People are at the heart of our business, and we look forward to welcoming new employees with the jobs our restaurant will create.

“We’re committed to investing in opportunities for a mix of all ages, life stages and backgrounds, promoting flexibility and equality.”

The restaurant has also been built in line with McDonald’s ‘Convenience of the Future’ programme, combining a new layout with new technology to create a faster, more efficient experience for customers.

News of the American chain known for its burgers, fries and chicken nuggets coming to Martlesham was revealed in January.

There were concerns from residents in the area regarding traffic, as well as the Parish Council raising concerns about crime, disorder and noise in the area.

The newly opened restaurant is the only 24 hour facility in the area.

McDonald’s is now open, with McDelivery service starting from June 27.
